Andrea plays a pivotal role in overseeing the Mitchell College marks its 80th Commencement Exercises on Sat., May 11, with 9/11 survivor Dan Holdridge delivering the keynote address to the Class of 2024. The ceremony takes place at 10 a.m. on the Mitchell College Green.
On September 11, 2001, Holdridge was at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the building, killing 184 people. Suffering from serious injuries, he was just 10 feet away from others who did not survive. Since 2002 he has used his experience Celebrate children’s songs and learn about children’s music at the “Artists & Educators Children’s Songs Conference & Festival,” Saturday, April 6, 9 a.m.–3 p.m., in the Clarke Center at Mitchell College. The event features a morning conference geared toward musicians and educators and an afternoon Children’s Songs Festival that is open to the public.

William Tong is the 25th attorney general to serve Connecticut, taking office in 2019, and now serving his second term. He was the first Asian American elected to statewide office in Connecticut, and the first Chinese American to be elected Attorney General nationwide. He served Mitchell College recently awarded four of its students the inaugural George Floyd Scholarship, recognizing their leadership ability and desire to effect social change. The students – all juniors or seniors studying in the Human Services core, with concentrations in criminal process and behavioral sciences/psychology – received $2500 each for the 2020-21 academic year. Recipients include Emil Cortorreal of New London, Conn.; Desmond Knowles of Indianapolis, Ind.; Dylan Radovich of Groton, Conn.; and Sound Community Services is thinking outside the box when it comes to Thanksgiving this year for its clients. Before COVID-19, Sound Community Services gathered 150 – 200 people together consisting of their clients, their families, and staff to Mitchell College in New London for a Thanksgiving feast. Food was catered by Mitchell College, the food was served by staff, music would play, and prizes would be handed out. It was a moment in time that staff and clients looked forward to each year and were thankful Mitchell College was recently awarded more than $44,000 in grants from the Southeastern New England Educational and Charitable (SNEC) Foundation. The award will fund three separate projects for Mitchell’s marine research program, including a laboratory upgrade, research on marine invasive species, and a beach restoration project. Two changes in executive level leadership at Mitchell College took place on July 1. Dr. Tracy Y. Espy, who recently moved to New London, began her tenure as the college’s eighth president, and Rick D’Avino started his first term as the elected chair of the college’s Board of Trustees.
Espy, an accomplished college administrator, expert in human development and family therapy and the first Following a health care career spanning more than five decades, Mary Lenzini, president of the Southeastern Connecticut VNA, will retire at the end of 2020.
Lenzini leads the VNA's home health care, school health and community services divisions, which serve thousands of eastern Connecticut residents, including new mothers, the elderly and the homeless. She oversees a staff of more than 240. The VNA, an affiliate of Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, provides more than 100,000 home care visits annually to Kyle Devitte from Inside Lacrosse spent an entire day at the Coast Guard Academy during the first week of October featuring the rise of the Coast Guard men's lacrosse program in The DIII Life.

Full of Groton, CT – The Chelsea Groton Foundation awarded $74,100.50 in grants to 48 non-profit organizations from Connecticut and Rhode Island this fall.
